Department of Oral Pathology

Department of Oral Pathology has been established in Rehman College of Dentistry with a vision to upgrade the science of oral pathology by producing qualified and well equipped graduates who are excellent oral pathologists, good researchers and thorough professionals. 
Oral Pathology is one of the basic science subject in dentistry, concerned with the scientific study of the cause and effect of oral diseases, an understanding of which is essential for diagnosis and for the development of rationale for treatment planning and preventive program.
The discipline of Oral Pathology links the training in basic sciences with its applications in clinical dentistry. It covers the diverse spectrum of disease processes affecting oral structures and tissues.
The Department of Oral Pathology at Rehman College of Dentistry started with the inception of the Institute. Since then, the department has made tremendous progress academically and infrastructure wise.
The students are trained to understand the possibilities of molecular pathology in diagnosis of syndromes. Good skills in Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology form the basis of understanding any disease process, as well as the practical skills needed in the diagnosis and management of oral diseases.


PROGRAMME OUTLINE

The course at Rehman College of Dentistry offers an in depth study into pathologies of the oral cavity including various parts of the oral cavity, among other areas affected with disease. This helps to correlate the clinical appearance of the disease with their underlying microbiological features. Many of the general syndromes can have oral manifestations characteristic enough to lead to the diagnosis of the underlying syndrome 
Subject information is delivered to students through lectures, interactive sessions, case presentations and research projects throughout the year. The department comprises of well trained and experienced postgraduate faculty along with the departmental library and state of the art laboratory facilities.

DESCRIPTION

In the study of oral and dental sciences, Oral Pathology is the subject that deals with the nature, identification and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. Understanding of oral pathology is essential for diagnosis and for the development of rational treatment and preventive programs as a dental professional must possess a good understanding of causative factors, disease processes, clinical presentation, microscopic features, and diagnosis of oral and Para-oral diseases. One of the most important purposes of oral pathology is to give the student the ability to correctly diagnose oral lesions and develop differential diagnosis. The department of Oral Pathology has educational goals for the 3rd year BDS students. The department provides an overview of oral and maxillofacial pathology including the clinical Histopathology and radiographic presentation of Oral diagnosis and pathogenesis. The study of microscope, tissue processing, diagnostic tests and advanced techniques are also includes.
