Orthodontic Long Course | RCD

On 12th of February Rehman College of Dentistry achieved yet another milestone with the inception of the 1st Orthodontic Long Course. Programme was conceived in collaboration with all the clinical departments of RCD and was led by the Orthodontic Department. It was presided and facilitated by the Principal RCD Prof Ghulam Rasool along with the Asst Prof. Dr. Faizan ul Hassan and Sr registrar (Orthodontic Dept) Dr. Arsalan Hameed Khan.

Candidates from all over the country came to attend the 1st contact session which lasted 2 days. Among these participants were fellows of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics and other qualified practitioners.

1st day comprised of a lecture on ethics by Prof. Dr. Ghulam Rasool followed by an interactive discussion on orthodontic diagnosis. 1st day also included digital cephalometric analysis on a custom-built software for cephalometric interpretation. Candidates were allowed to do hands on exercise of digital cephalometry on their systems to get accustomed to this state-of-the-art method of orthodontic diagnosis.

2nd day featured an extensive discussion of orthodontic attachments including bands and brackets. This was followed by a demonstration of digital impression taking and model fabrication by 3d intra oral scanner. Candidates were then taken to the Phantom Head Lab at RCD to practice bracket positioning. All participants were then allotted patients to start orthodontic strap up with the first bond up done by the facilitators.

The session ended with feedback from participants who gave a very positive response to the proceedings of both days and were very enthusiastic to attend the future sessions.
