Rehman College of Dentistry holds workshop on AI diagnostics
Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing healthcare, and Rehman College of Dentistry (RCD) is ensuring its students are prepared for that future.
The Department of Oral Pathology recently organized its first activity-based workshop on the “Role of Artificial Intelligence in Dental Diagnostics” for third-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery students. The initiative introduced future dentists to emerging technologies that are transforming the way oral diseases are detected, diagnosed, and managed.
The workshop provided students with an opportunity to understand how artificial intelligence can assist clinicians in identifying diseases more accurately, reducing diagnostic errors, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. Through interactive activities and discussions, participants explored the growing role of digital tools in modern dental practice.
The session was led by Dr Benish Aleem, Head of the Department of Oral Pathology at Khyber Medical University. Recognized for her contributions as a researcher, clinician, and trainer, she shared insights into how artificial intelligence is reshaping healthcare systems around the world and creating new possibilities for dental professionals.
Dr Mashal Khan, an MPhil Oral Pathology scholar, facilitated the workshop and encouraged active participation from students, while Dr Sahibzadi Fatima Tariq, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Pathology at RCD, coordinated the event.
Faculty members highlighted the importance of exposing students to technological advancements at an early stage so they can confidently adapt to the evolving demands of the profession. They noted that the future of dentistry will increasingly rely on the integration of human expertise with intelligent digital systems.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Principal RCD Prof Dr Ghulam Rasool distributed certificates of appreciation among participants. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting innovation, academic excellence, and professional development, emphasizing that initiatives such as this help prepare students for the next generation of dental care.
