RCD Student Wins Research Grant as College Backs Future Clinician-Scientists

Every proposal mattered — and every proposal was rewarded. In the Student Research Grant Award Ceremony, the message was clear: if students are willing to think, question, and put their ideas to paper, the institution is ready to back them.

Every student who submitted a research proposal received a grant, with more than half of the college’s cohort securing funding. For many students, it marked a first step into research; for the institution, it was a bold statement of intent.

The initiative belongs to the ‘Fundamentals of Health Research’ programme, launched in June under the patronage of Prof Dr Ghulam Rasool and directed by Dr Naseer Ahmed. Structured around three pillars — introduction to research, medical statistics, and poster presentation — the course was designed to turn academic curiosity into practical skill.

The grant awards have already pushed the programme beyond the classroom. Five students will now compete for Travel Grants, giving them the chance to carry the college’s name to national and international platforms.

Faculty members described the outcome as a turning point — not only in how young dentists approach science, but also in how the institution chooses to invest in them. The grants, they said, are more than funding; they represent a promise to nurture clinician-scientists who will drive innovation and reshape healthcare in Pakistan.
