Fundamentals of Health Research: RCD Launches Health Research Course
Research isn’t just being taught at Rehman College of Dentistry—it’s beginning to take root in every corner of academic life.
This week, the college introduced its three-month Fundamentals of Health Research (FHR) course, an initiative designed to embed research into the heart of undergraduate learning. Far from a routine academic launch, the program signals a shift in how the next generation of dentists will think, question, and practice.
Inside the auditorium, the mood was electric. Students arrived not just to attend—they came to engage.
Over the years, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Rasool, the principal of RCD, has cultivated a research-driven ethos across the college. With three international research conferences hosted and over 1,000 students certified through the Certificate in Health Research (CHR) program, RCD has laid the groundwork. Now, through FHR, it is focusing on its own students, those preparing to contribute to the science behind the practice.
The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Naseer Ahmed, who has been instrumental in shaping research literacy at the college. He spoke of research not as a discipline, but as a responsibility, a necessary skill for the modern healthcare professional.
Prof. Dr. Ejaz Hassan Khan, attending as guest of honour, framed the program as a timely response to evolving global standards in dental education. He noted that initiatives like FHR don’t just build academic credentials; they nurture curiosity and critical thinking—qualities essential for any future leader in medicine.
The FHR course is structured to help students move from observation to investigation. By guiding them through each stage of research, from forming questions to presenting evidence, it equips them to participate in the future of dentistry, not just inherit it.
For Rehman College of Dentistry, this launch isn’t about adding another program to the calendar. It’s about creating a generation of clinicians who will ask better questions and find smarter answers.
